New Bearings: The Art of Faith and Perspective in the Desert

The Inspiration Behind “New Bearings” – An Art Journey in Faith and Perspective

The Desert Adventure: A Daring Quest for the Perfect Shot

You’ll get stuck, they said. No cell service, they warned. It’s too sandy! The advice was sound, but the allure of capturing the perfect sunset shot was too great. Against all better judgment, I took my little Honda Fit down those dusty, sandy roads of Southern California’s Badlands, determined to catch a sunset I could transform into something meaningful.

With echoes of my past desert adventures in mind, I slid through miles of washboard roads, skimming past sandy ruts and praying I wouldn’t need a tow. I finally made it to my destination, arriving just in time to capture a glorious sunset, and camped in my car overnight to catch the morning’s light.

Capturing “New Bearings”: The Photoshoot Adventure

As a photo surrealist artist, my work involves a unique process. While in the Badlands, I captured hundreds of images that would later become fragments of “New Bearings.” Every element—each sphere, sky, and angle—was carefully photographed. Carrying my gear, props, and trusty remote, I hiked and scouted for hours, collecting every piece I’d need. With each click, I envisioned the final image, but the true magic would happen later, in the digital studio.

From Concept to Creation: The Digital Journey

Layer by Layer: Building a Vision in Adobe Suite

After the photoshoot, the adventure shifted from the desert to my studio in Redding, California. Using Adobe software, I meticulously layered each image, one by one, blending the physical elements into a surreal vision of balance and ascendance. Each digital layer adds dimension, bringing depth and clarity to the message behind “New Bearings”—rising above life’s weight and embracing the divine perspective offered by our faith.

The Meaning Behind “New Bearings”

The title “New Bearings” reflects the concept of finding a higher perspective in Christ. This piece symbolizes the freedom and lightness of our new identity in Him, lifted beyond earthly troubles and limitations. The spheres on which the figure balances represent life’s challenges, while her graceful pose conveys faith’s resilience and strength.

Inspired by Scripture: Elevating Perspective Through Faith

Each piece of art in my Christian wall art collection draws deeply from biblical themes. For “New Bearings,” these verses encapsulate the theme of transformation:

“And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.” — Ephesians 2:6

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” — 2 Corinthians 5:17

“For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.” — Colossians 3:3-4

The Art of Patience: Maari’s Creative Process

Creating art is a journey that requires both physical and spiritual endurance. As with “New Bearings,” each artwork begins with an adventure—an outdoor photoshoot, a day of capturing elements. But the process is completed only when I’ve spent hours layering, editing, and perfecting in the studio. I pour into each piece the belief that art partnered with faith can transform not just spaces but hearts.
