Last summer, I took a bold step toward embracing a healthier view of money. It started with a crazy idea, $1,800 in cash, and a green velvet dress. Let me take you on the journey that led to creating one of my favorite pieces, Money Magnet.
The Early Morning Adventure
It was a beautiful summer morning near Portland, Oregon. I woke up at dawn, quietly slipped out of the house where my niece and nephew were still sleeping, and grabbed my trusty green velvet dress from the overflowing prop box in my car. While the kids were dreaming of waterpark adventures, I was setting out to make a concept that had been spinning in my mind for months come to life.
Cash in hand (literally), I made my way to an open field, ready to turn my idea into reality. But this wasn’t just about taking photos. This was about creating a visual reminder of the mindset shift I had been working on: to stop chasing money and instead trust that abundance would find me.
The Inspiration Behind the Art
I think about my family a lot when I create. I wonder, What kind of example can I be to my nieces and nephew? I want to teach them true confidence, humility, and how to dream big without being held back by fear.
But it’s not just about them. It’s also about me—my growth, my beliefs, and the lies I sometimes tell myself. What does grace look like in this season? What limiting beliefs do I need to let go of? And how can I visually translate these lessons into something meaningful for others?
Finally, I think about you, my audience. What can I create that inspires you to break through mental blocks? What visual message can I send to uplift you, bring fresh hope, and offer a new perspective?
Biblical Inspiration Behind Money Magnet
Every piece I create has layers of meaning, often deeply rooted in scripture. For Money Magnet, I reflected on verses that emphasize God’s provision and abundance:
Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. — Luke 6:38
The Lord will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. — Deuteronomy 28:12

These verses inspired the visual concept of money flying through the air, symbolizing blessings that flow freely and abundantly when we trust God. It’s a powerful reminder that His provision isn’t just financial—it’s about grace, peace, and opportunities that come when we align ourselves with His purpose.

Getting Real About Money
Money is such a loaded topic, isn’t it? For me, it used to trigger feelings of anxiety and stress. I’d work myself to exhaustion trying to make ends meet, caught up in a scarcity mindset that only left me feeling stuck.
But over the past few years, I’ve been on a journey to shift my perspective. I’ve realized that money is just a tool—it’s not the goal. Gratitude, emotional health, and faith have been key in helping me reframe how I see finances.
Instead of letting my circumstances define my emotional state, I started asking: How can I make money work for me? The idea of abundance as something that flows freely—not something to chase—began to resonate deeply.

With all these thoughts swirling in my head, I knew I needed to create a piece of art to solidify this mindset. I grabbed my needle and thread and literally stitched together $1,800 in cash, turning it into a visual representation of abundance.
Standing in that field, dressed in green velvet and tossing money into the air, I felt a sense of freedom and release. It was beautiful, liberating, and exactly what I needed to capture.
